KURIGRAM: A Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) candidate was killed as lightning struck him at Rajibpur upazila in the district on Tuesday noon.

The deceased was identified as Khairul Islam, 17, son of Ershadul Haque of Velamari village under Mohanganj union of the upazila.

Witness told banglanews that lightning struck him while playing football at the bank of the river Brahmaputra, leaving him injured critically.

Later, Khairul succumbed to his injuries on way to Rajibpur Upazila Health Complex, they added.

Mohanganj Union Parishad Chairman Anwar Hossain Anu confirmed the matter.
