DHAKA: Myanmar will open a liaison office at its Mongdu town to improve bilateral relations with Bangladesh as well as to solve any crisis on borders.
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) director general Major General Aziz Ahmed told media at a briefing at BGB Headquarters at Pilkhana in the city.
The decision was taken in a three-day meeting on border affairs from June 10, he added.
The BGB boss said Myanmar government had formally expressed their sorrow regarding the killing of Nayek Mizan on Nikhangchhari border in Bangladesh.
He said Border Guard Police (BGP) of Myanmar fired on a suspicion of the presence of Rohingya Solidarity Organization (RSO) in the area.
They (Myanmar authorities) will take action against the BGP people involved in this incident, he added.
Major General Aziz said they had discussed on six issues including narcotics, arms and human trafficking.
They had also talked about joint patrolling on the border to douse crisis, he added.
