DHAKA: The Election Commission (EC) has approved a compensation proposal of Tk 48 lakhs approximately to some 135 people who became victims of violence during observing their duties of the 10th general elections.

The commission on Thursday ordered to issue an allowance letter in this regard.

A deputy commissioner level officer of the EC told banglanews, “People, who become victims of polls-violence including poll officers and the law enforcing agencies members, applied for compensation. About 300 applications had been submitted, of those, the EC secretariat recommend for compensation to 135 after vetting.”

The commission will provide compensation to the polls officers and the Ansar-VDP members only.

EC sources said, “The compensation amount covers a range of Tk 10,000-100,000 considering the magnitude of injury.”

On the other hand, EC will send letter to the education and the health ministry asking to provide education and health assistances to the family of the deceased and the injured.
