No move for visa-free entry of BD citizens

DHAKA: New Delhi officials just after one day informed the media that the government didn’t take any decision nor any move on visa-free entry of Bangladeshi nationals into India.

They have claimed this on Sunday, day after Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi opposed the visa-free entry for Bangladeshi Citizens in special cases, reports The Economic Times on Saturday.

The report also said, quoting official sources, that they have seen reports in the press regarding 'decision' on visa-free entry for Bangladeshi nationals.

“It is hereby clarified that no such decision has been taken by government nor is any such move under its consideration,” they described.

Earlier, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi had told a press conference in Guwahati that the government is opposed to any relaxation of visa norms for free entry into India of Bangladeshi citizens below 18 years and above 65 years of age.

However, their external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj will pay a three-day visit to Bangladesh from June 25 during which she will hold talks with the top leadership there on a host of issues of bilateral and international interest.
