25,000 govt web portals launched

DHAKA: In latest initiative to build up ‘Digital Bangladesh’, the government has launched a total of 25,000 web portals to provide information and service to the people immediately and prevent corruption at the high level of administration.

Sajeeb Wazed Joy, son of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, inaugurated the main platform (www.bangladesh.gov.bd) of the websites at the Prime Minister’s Office on Monday afternoon.

Under the platform, there are 5,000 domains of various government websites that cover 61 ministries and departments, 345 directorates, 64 districts, 488 upazilas and 4,550 unions.

These portals have been developed under the Access to Information (a2i) Programme of PMO for a year with supervision of Cabinet Division in association with Bangladesh Computer Council and Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services for a year.

The cabinet published a gazette on December 5, 2013 on the matter.

State Minister for Post, Telecommunications and Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak told banglanews: “Gathering information for theses portals has taken two and half years.”

He added: “These portals are for reaching all government services at the people’s doors.”
