Criminals changing IMEI No. of mobile

DHAKA: Law enforcers are concerned as criminals are changing their mobile phone’s international mobile equipment identity (IMEI) numbers with the help of some technology experts.

As a result, police and detective branch could not detain the criminals who are committing crimes across the country.

Detective sources said that they can’t reach the smuggled, theft and snatched mobile phones as criminals changing the IMEI numbers to avoid arrest and ease their activities.

A group of tech experts are providing technical support to change the IMEI numbers of the stolen mobile phone sets at Motaleb Plaza of Hatirpul, Gulisthan Stadium Market, Chittagong’s Riaz Uddin Market and Ocean City Market.

In this circumstance, detective branch police has already sent letters to Home Ministry, Post, Telecommunication and Information Technology Ministry, BTRC, RAB and police headquarters to stop such crimes.

In response to the letter, Home Ministry has asked the police department and Rab to take necessary steps.

However, Rab law and media wing director ATM Habibur Rahman claimed that they have more technologies and techniques to arrest the criminals though they are changing IMEI.
