DHAKA: Robbers allegedly looted about 55 bhori (tola) gold, 280 bhori silver and Tk 9.58 lakh from 11 jewelry shops in Nawabganj upazila of the district earlier Friday.

Law enforcers held a robber, Julon Mandal, son of one Sambhu Mandal, hailed from Gokul Nagar village of the upazila.

Quoting locals, Officer-in-Charge of Nababganj Thana M Saidur Rahman said that a gang of 40/50 robbers tied seven night guards and robbed 11 jewellery shops of Churain Bazar area of the upazila.

On information, police rushed to the spot and nabbed Jhulon Mandal but the other dacoits managed to flee the spot sensing the presence of cops, he added.

Police have been trying to detain the dacoits and rescue the robbed goods, OC added.
