Padma Bridge work begins

FROM PARLIAMENT: Communications Minister Obaidul Quader said that the works of much-awaited Padma Bridge has already been started. 

The minister came up with the disclosure in response to a query of lawmaker Fazilutunnesa Bappi in the budget session in parliament on Tuesday. 

Obaidul Quader said, according to allocation of business Roads and Highway Department (RHD) will build the 1500 meter long bridge and the works of the bridge at Mawa-Jagira point are under construction.  

Works of Mawa-Jagira approach road and service area also under construction, he added. 

On June 2, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave her approval to the work order of the construction of the main part of Padma Bridge.

The MBEC got the work order as the lowest bidder of the construction work worth about Tk 12,133.39 crore.

China Major Bridge Engineering Company (MBEC), placed the 12th among the largest and best 500 construction enterprises in China, evolves from former Major Bridge Engineering Bureau, Ministry of Railways after the ownership reform. 

It is a state designated first grade construction enterprise that comprises scientific research, survey and design, construction, machinery making and bridge manufacture, construction supervision.
