2 awarded life-term in Netrokona

NETROKONA: A Netrokona court on Tuesday awarded life-term imprisonment to two persons for their involvement in killing of Pritesh Sarkar.

The court also fined the convicted Tk 50,000, in default, five more years rigorous imprisonment.

Nine other accused were released as they were found innocent of the charge, reported banglanews correspondent.

Additional District and Session Judge Abdul Hamid passed the sentence around 11:30am in the presence of all the accused.

The convicts are Shyamol Purkayostha, son of a Mahesh Purkayostha and Sudhin Sarker, son of Anil Sarker, both hailed from Ballabhpur of Khaliajuri upazila of the district.

Sources from the court said as a result of a long standing clash, convicted Shyamol and Sudhin beaten Nipendra Sarker and his nephew Pritesh Sarker, leaving them injured critically on May 14, 1998.

After a while, Pritesh succumbed to his injuries while Nipendra managed to flee the spot.

On the day, Nipendra filed a case with Khaliajury Thana against 11. On March 5, 1999, police submitted the chargesheet.

Public Prosecutor Kamalesh Kumar Chowdhury moved the case for the plaintiff while Advocate Manoranjan Sarker, Subhash Banik Ajay and Ashok Talukder moved for the defendant in the court.
