DHAKA: Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) forecasted that the total poverty rates will increase around 15 percent by 2030 in Bangladesh due to climate change.
It also said production of paddy and wheat will be decreased about 8 and 32 percents by 2050 as temperature will go high and saline water in agriculture land will increase due to rise of sea level.
TIB disclosed the study at a report titled ‘Good governance on climate financing: Organizational and practical progress, challenge and possibility’ at BRAC Centre Inn on Wednesday noon.
Climate project coordinator of the organization M Jakir Hossain Khan read the report.
According to Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) information if water increases 28 centimeter in Bay around 96 percent grazing ground of the Royal Bengal Tigers in Sundarbans area will be drowned.
The report also said about 2.7 crore Bangladeshi people will be affected by the sea level rise by 2050.
Executive Director of TIB Dr Iftekharuzzaman said Bangladesh is the number one among risky countries which will be affected by the climate change.
TIB operated the study under the CFGP project of the organization to identify headway, challenge and possibilities on climate financing, he added.
