DHAKA UNIVERSITY: Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury on Wednesday categorically said women of the country are leading the country ahead developing their own status.
The speaker came up with the observation while addressing a programme titled ‘Reception of Jayitas’ organized by Women and Gender Studies Department of University of Dhaka (DU) in Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of DU.
State Minister Meher Afroz Chumki of Women and Children Affairs and Emirates professor of DU Dr Najma Chowdhury were present as special guest where vice-chancellor of DU Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique presided over the programme.
Chairman of Women and Gender Studies Department professor Tania Haque delivered the welcome speech.
Addressing the women as the pride of Bangladesh, she said, “The women of Bangladesh are moving forward dealing the hard reality of society and proving their ability and efficiency.”
They are also helping their families, society and country making them self-independent that’s made them ‘Jayita’, she added.
Meher Afroz cited the different activities of the government for women development and assured that they will be their side all time.
VC Arefin Siddique said those who achieved the position in society overcoming the obstacles are the real ‘Jayita’. It is an ideology, philosophy, demonstration and fight.
Showing the development picture of women in higher education he said there was just one female student in 1921 but 40-50 percent of total student now are female. Some 80 percent female students of the students got various awards.
Different development NGOs, representative of NGOs, teacher and students of different departments joined the programme.
