DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday reiterated her pledge to establishing a just and peaceful society on the auspicious occasion of International Criminal Justice Day (July 17) on Thursday.
In a message to celebrate the day, the premier also reminded that Bangladesh joined the international community in reiterating its unequivocal commitment to the Statute of the International Criminal Court adopted 16 years ago.
In her message Sheikh Hasina also said, “I remain confident that the International Criminal Justice Day would sent a strong message to perpetrators of crimes around the globe that they can run, but they cannot hide. They will be found, and they will be held to account for what they have done.”
She also said that the words were vindicated as the people of Bangladesh saw justice done for the crimes against humanity and genocide during the liberation war in 1971 though it took four decades.
Sheikh Hasina added: “I take this opportunity to renew Bangladesh’s unwavering commitment to pursue the course of justice and reconciliation we have embarked upon nationally in strict adherence to the relevant international standards.”
