Anti-state cop to face music: IGP

DHAKA: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Hasan Mahmud Khandakar said that police personnel will be punished if they are involved in any activities against the country.

He issued the forewarning while replying to a query of the reporters at a prize giving ceremony in Razarbagh Police line on Friday noon.

Answering to another question, IGP Hasan Mahmud said “police always works consciously and boldly. But for some police personnel we feel embraced. All policemen those will be involved in anti-state activities will be punished.”

Earlier on Thursday, a court placed Sub-Inspector Jahid and his source Nasim Sheikh on 5-day remand over the murder of Mahbubur Rahman Sujan, a Jhut (garments waste) trader of Mirpur who was killed in police custody.

Accusation of not filing the case of Sujan murder IGP said police were doing their duty.

Addressing about the programme Hasan Mahmud said police remain busy with religious practice and good habit besides their regular duty.

The winner will respectively be sent to the holy Hajj every year.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Benazir Ahmed, among others, was present.
