BAGERHAT: A suspected forest robber was killed in a gunfight with police in North Razapur area under Sarankhola upazila of the district early Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Nomir Talukdar, 37, member of Belal Bahini, son of Sultar Ali, hailed from Arjunbahar village of Sadar Upazila of the district.

Police sources said that Detective Branch of Police (DB) detained him on Saturday night and according to his information police went to Sundarbans to recover arms.

Sensing the presence of police, robbers opened fire aiming them and in reply police also opened fire, leaving Nomir critically injured.

Later, he was rushed to Sarankhola Health Complex where duty doctor declared him dead.

Confirming the matter, Sarankhola Thana Officer-in-Charge Abdus Salek told banglanews, “The robber was wanted in 8-10 cases including killing and robbery.”
