UN under secy general applauds police

DHAKA: UN Under Secretary General and Head of the Department of Peacekeeping Operations of the United Nations Hervé Ladsous Wednesday praised Bangladesh Police highly for their efficiency, professionalism and courage while performing duty.

Hervé Ladsous also praised the police force for their contributions in UN Peacekeeping Missions around the globe.

He came with the praise in a courtesy meeting with Inspector General of Bangladesh Police (IGP) Hasan Mahmud Khandaker at Police Headquarters around 11:30am.

Under Secretary General also said Bangladesh has sent largest number of police forces in UN Peacekeeping Missions.

He also commended the role that the female police members of Bangladesh observed in saving women and children in war-plagued countries especially in Congo and Haiti.

Ladsous further said UN mandate is constantly changing in the contemporary world.

He also urged IGP Hasan Mahmud to emphasize on acquiring police members efficiency in French Language, trans-national crime, drugs trafficking and about organised crime.

The UN Under Secretary General also said that they would give priority to Bangladesh Police’s experience in the rask of peace building.

IGP Hasan Mahmud said the police members have a great opportunity of bringing glory to the country by establishing peace in various war-plagued countries of the world.

He also thanked Hervé Ladsous for his continuous support and help to Bangladesh Police in UN Peacekeeping Missions.

UN Resident Coordinator Neal Walker, Chief Recruitment and Selection Officer Gerard Bickman, Military Adviser Lieutenant General Maksud Kamal and Additional IGP (HRM) Moinur Rahman Chowdhury, DIG (media and planning) Lutfor Rahman Mandal, AIG (UN Affairs) Asaduzzaman and AIG (operations) Kazi Zia Uddin, among others, were present in the program.
