Woman succumbs to stampede injury

BARISAL: The death toll in Barisal stampede now three on Saturday as another woman succumbed to her injury at Sher-e-bangla Medical College Hospital. 

The deceased was identified as Bakul Begum, 35, wife of Jalal Hossain at Rasulpur village of the district. She sustained injury in a stampede while collecting Zakat cloths in Kathpatti area of the city.

Ward master of the hospital Abul Kalam said, six people, who were stampeded in front of Khan Sons Group office in the area on Friday morning, were rushed in to the hospital.

Earlier, Firoza and Nupur were killed and five others injured in the stampede at 10:45am on Friday.

Witness Bilkis said, “The organization was distributing zakat cloths among the destitute of the area at the morning. At one stage, overcrowded people began pushing each others that left seven people seriously injured.”

They were rushed to Barisal Medical College Hospital where on-duty doctor declared Firoza and Nupur dead.
