DHAKA: The government has decided to put people’s National Identity Card (NID) information to their passports for accelerating the process.

Department of Immigration and Passports (DIP) have already started following the instruction.

Additional Director General of the DIP Mohammad Siraj Uddin made the disclosure while talking to banglanews on Saturday.

He said earlier there was an option to show someone’s passport name according to their wish but from now on it will be the same as in the NID.

Moreover, passport details will also follow the NID, he added.

The election commission provided NIDs online and all the passport offices have also been digitalized so that any one can access their NID information just entering the NID number.

However, DIP higher official urged people to correct NID if there are any mistakes otherwise the passports might be cancelled if they defer from the NIDs.

Besides, the government has kept the decision unchanged to issue passports on birth certificates.
