KISHOREGANJ: The historic Sholakia Eidgah of the district is almost ready to hold the country’s biggest Eid congregation like previous years.

Sources told banglanews on Saturday that all the necessary arrangements including waterproof shed, fans, sitting place and ablution facilities have been set up at the Eidgah for holding the 187th congregation of Eid-ul-Fitr.

Chairman of Islahul Muslimeen Council and secretary general of Jamaat-e-Ulema Maulana Md. Fariduddin Masud is scheduled to conduct the Eid Jamaat this year at 10:00am on the day.

However, a special munajat will also be offered seeking divine blessings for peace, progress and welfare of the people of the country as well as Muslim Ummah there.

Local sources said that over three lakh devotees come here to offer Eid payers every year.

Devotees from across the world, including Saudi Arabia, Turkey, India, Pakistan and England are expected to attend the Eid prayers this year, according to sholakiaeidgah.blogspot.com.

For rest of the people from country and abroad Channel I, a private satellite television channel, will live telecast the Eid congregation.

History says that Dewan Sayeed Ahmed (R) of Haibatnagar Dewan Bari of the district town conducted Eid congregation at Sholakia, one of the fields of his own ‘Taluk, in 1828.

This ground is later known as the Sholakia Eidgah over a myth of 1 lakh 25 thousands people’s gathering which is said ‘Shoa lakh’ in Bangla and ‘Shoalakhia’ from there.

Later, another Dewan Mannan Dad Khan gave 4.35 acres of land for the Eidgah in 1950 which stood at about 7.00 acres of land, local sources said.

Railway sources said that three special trains will operate on Bhairab-Kishoreganj, Narsindi-Kishoreganj and Kishoreganj-Mymensingh routes to facilitate the movement of Sholakia-bound Muslim devotees.

Meanwhile buses from different places of the capital and rest of the country will also carry passengers Sholakaia.
