DHAKA: Workers started their pre-scheduled demonstration demanding payments of dues and Eid bonus of Tuba Garment workers, who continue fast-unto-death before Eid day.

At first, police barred workers to bring out procession in Badda Hossain Market area around 11:00am. Later, hundreds of workers of may factories took to the street amid police barricade that halted traffic movement in the area.

But, police confined demonstrating Tuba workers inside the factory. 

Leaders-activists of different workers’ organizations including Bangladesh Textile Garment Federation joined the protest procession.

Centering the protest program, police have taken additional security measures. 

Badda thana officer-in-charge MA Jalil banglanews that additional police, including female police, APC, Water Cannon, have been deployed there to maintain law and order.

If anybody tries to create chaotic situation, then measures would be taken against them, he added.

The workers of Tuba’s five factories say the management owes them three months’ wages as well as bonuses.

They are now in movement demanding the three months’ salary of 1600 workers and restarting of all the garments along with Tazreen Fashions which was gutted in fie in 2012 and killed 112 trapped workers.
