DHAKA: Prime Minster Sheikh Hasina and her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi will deliver speeches at the same podium on September 27, during the 69th General Assembly of the United Nations.
On the sideline of the assembly, she will also hold talks with Modi.
The premiers of two South Asian neighboring countries along with 193 countries’ heads or representatives will join the 69th UNGA beginning on September 24, which will end on October 1.
Sources concerned said that Prime Ministers of Bangladesh, India, China and Russia would address the assembly on September 27.
Officials at the UN Permanent Mission at New York said they began necessary preparations for Sheikh Hasina’s speech at the Session.
On the sideline of the assembly, Bangladesh PM will hold several bilateral meetings with head of governments or states including the Indian PM. The schedule is however yet to be finalized.
In 2013, Hasina met with her the then Indian counterpart Dr. Manmohan Singh on the sideline of the 68th Session of the UN General Assembly.
And then, elections were held in both Bangladesh and India. Hasina was re-elected in January 2014 while Bharatiya Janata Party-led alliance won Indian general polls and Narendra Modi became the Prime Minster in May.
Both premiers exchanged greetings, invited each other to visit their countries but they are yet to meet.
