DHAKA: Stephen J Rapp, visiting US lawyer and the United States Ambassador-at-Large for War Crimes Issues in the Office of Global, on Tuesday said it should be tried an individual in stead of any organization.
He also observed that the death penalty should be awarded to any person after he is proved guilty without any kind of doubt.
The US diplomat made the assertion while addressing journalists in a press conference at American Center in the city in evening.
Indicating the trial of war criminals, Rapp said, “The system of capital has been prevailing both in Bangladesh and USA but many countries have dissolved it. This is why one has to be unambiguously sure about one’s crimes before awarding death penalty.”
Rapp also said he came to Bangladesh for the fifth time and he gave advices to ensure the international standard of the war crimes trial.
However, he expressed his satisfaction over the war crimes trial.
The ambassador also said that his country has been trying for a ceasefire.
Rapp also said there can be violation of human rights (from Israel’s side) as the country is in a war but many other things has to consider.
