RAJBARI: Ending 16 years’ sufferings of the business community and the mass people, Bangladesh Railway Thursday resumed train service on Rajbari-Faridpur route.
Kazi Keramat Ali, lawmaker of Rajbari-1 constituency, inaugurated the experimental reopening of the rail route in the morning.
Witnesses told banglanews that a train, consisting five compartments, started its new journey to Faridpur from Rajbari around 10:00am.
However, the train stopped at Panchuria, Khankhanapur, Basantapur, Amirabad and Ambikapur stations on its way.
Earlier, the railway department closed the Panchuria (Rajbari)-Faridpur route on March 15, 1998.
Later, the Awmi League government took initiatives to start the service again in 2010 involving Tk 90 crore to reestablish seven railway stations and rail track.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on November 2, 2013 inaugurated the work of Rajbari-Faridpur rail line founding works at a rally at Pangsha University College premises.
