DHAKA: Father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s wife Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib’s 84th birthday is today.
Honored as ‘Bangamata’, Fazilatunnesa was born in 1930 at Tungipara village in Gopalganj on the day.
She lost her father Sheikh Zahurul Haque at the age of three and mother Hosne Ara Begum at five.
She was married to her cousin Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Fazilatunnesa was martyred on August 15 in 1975 along with most of her family members.
President Mohammad Abdul Hamid in his speech paid tribute on the occasion of her birthday.
Hamid said, Sheikh Fazilatunnesa played an important role in building the nation till her death.
During the imprisonment of Bangabandhu, she assisted the political leaders by providing suggestions to strengthen the nation’s struggle for independence.
On the occasion of her birthday, ruling Awami League and its associate organizations have chalked out several programs.
A milad and doa mahfil will be held at Banani Graveyard in city at 8:30 in the morning today.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will attend a discussion program at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in city on the day.
A milad and doa mahfil will also be held at Awami League’s central office on Bangabandhu Avenue.
