KHULNA: A ringleader of forest robber gang was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police in Koyra upazila of the district late Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Moktarul Dhali alias Moktar, head of ‘Muktar Bahini’, and was an accused in four murder cases and an arms cease.
Officer-In-Charge (OC) Rokonuzzaman of district Detective Branch of police confirmed the matter to banglanews.
Koyra Thana OC Subir Dutt told banglanews, “Tipped-off, police arrested Moktar from Mostafar Mor of the upazila on Thursday morning; following the daylong interrogation of Mokatar, police drove operation at his den in Bhutummaree Char inside Jhojhopia River.”
Sensing the presence of police, the gang members began firing targeting the lawmen; police retaliated with gunshots, leaving Moktar bullet-injured.
Police also recovered eight guns, six bombs, and 16 rounds of bullets from the spot.
He was taken to the Upazila Health Complex where on-duty doctor declared him dead.
