DHAKA: Four members of a family died and another fell sick after consuming poisonous puffer fish (locally known as Patka fish) in Dholaipar area of the capital Dhaka on Monday night.

The deceased were identified as Shahin, 28, his younger bother Suja, 25, and their nephews Jumman, 12, and Nabin, 9.

Neighbor Dulal told banglanews, “Five members of the family were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) after falling sick eating puffer fishes.”

Of them, on-duty doctors declared Shahin, Nabin and Jumman dead at 11:00am on the day while Suja breathed his last at 4:00am Tuesday.

Another family member Farida Begum, Jumman’s mother, is undergoing treatment at DMCH.
