DHAKA: This Saturday wasn’t like all others day. At least it was little bit different for the people living in United States of America’s New York.

The thing happened as the Henry Hudson Waterfront Park, situated there was alive with the sounds, smells and colors of Bangladesh during the fourth annual Bangladeshi Festival in Hudson on that day.

The festival saw Bangladeshi culture in many forms, reports the register star on Sunday.

There were numerous food vendors serving traditional dishes, the report added.

The park’s gazebo was decorated with colorful curtains which served as a stage for various Bangladeshi performers.

Alderman Abdus Miah, D-2nd Ward, gave a speech an hour into the festival which thanked everyone who helped bring the festival together.

“There is a lot of community spirit here — a lot of community organization,” he said. “Every year we see more spirit and more cooperation and I think we have nowhere to go but up.”

Many traditional dances were performed and then a group of Bangladeshi junior high school goers, who had just gotten done celebrating Ramadan and Eid by purchasing new clothes, put on a fashion show.

This was followed by another fashion show for older children and teenagers.

The festival, which started at 4 and continued until 9 p.m., had more than 70 people in attendance.

Hudson Area Library Director Emily Chameides and David Murphy, the library’s capital campaign director, were on hand to promote the library’s Bengali texts and the Bengali newspaper, Weekly Thikana, which the library has delivered.

“This is a great day and I welcome this festival back to Hudson,” Mayor Bill Hallenbeck Jr. said. “I have always said that Hudson is the most culturally diverse city in all of New York.”
