5 of a family burned in Keraniganj fire

DHAKA: Five members of a family have sustained burn injuries in a fire that was triggered from a mosquito coil early Wednesday at their rented house in Keraniganj’s Par Gendaria area.

The victims are identified as Rahima Begum, 50, wife of late Hashem Ali, her daughters Salma, 30 and Sony, 14 and her sons  Rocky, 27 and Akash, 12.

Their landlord Nasir Uddin told banglanews, “The incident took place around 4:00am when everybody of that house was asleep.”

The fire originated from a mosquito coil and later it set to blaze after an electric explosion, leaving the woman and her four children burnt.

Locals rushed them to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) and they are now undergoing treatment at the burn unit.

Confirming the matter, DMCH police outpost In-Charge Mozammel Haque said, quoting the doctors, “Condition of the mother is critical, among the injured.”
