NOAKHALI: Leader of a local dacoit gang was killed here early Wednesday in a ‘gunfight’ with police near Harun Brickfield at Palla Bazar of Mohammadpur union in Chatkhil.

The deceased was identified as Khorshed Alam, 42, son of Abdur Rashid, residing in south Bodolcourt of the upazila.

However, sources said that four policemen also sustained injuries there.

Confirming the matter to banglanews, Chatkhil Thana Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nasim Uddin said that aides of Khorshed opened fire aiming police while the law enforcers were conducting operations at that area around 3:00am to find concealed firearms and ammunition.

Police also retaliated there, leaving five people, including the dacoit leader, bullet-hit, the OC added

He also mentioned that Khorshed was detained last night from Naraynganj’s Rupganj and later, police along the detainee went to raid the area.

On the other hand, police recovered a pistol with other locally made firearms from that area followed the gunfight.

Sources said that Khorshed, the prime accused of Chatkhil’s double murder case held on May 20, was also accused in other 30 cases.
