DHAKA:  Mohammad Shahjahan, formally honorary consul of Republic of Moldova, lost his job on different allegations including irregularities during the chairmanship of North South University (NSU).

The allegations also include female related scandal and illegal occupying of land during 9/11 caretaker government.

The Moldavian government did not renew the contact with Shahjahan as the honorary consul and did not appoint anyone, resulting a closure of its honorary consulate in Bangladesh.

Sources said the Moldavian government, by a latter, informed the Foreign Ministry that they ended the 15-years contact with Shahjahan, which the ministry, later, informed him.

They also said their government closed several others consulates at different countries.

Sources said Shahjahan had got involved in controversy in recent years; the matters were published in local and foreign media, which came to the Moldavian government’s knowledge.

Of the controversies, three reasons were to mentions: firstly, Sahajahan’s involvement in different irregularities during his chairmanship at NSU; secondly, allegation of involving female related scandal: thirdly, grabbing land of a housing company illegally.

The Moldavian government did not renew their contact with Shahjahan to avoid controversies, said sources here in Dhaka.

On the other hand, all diplomatic missions, all organizations of United Nations had been informed the matter through a circular on August 19.

The circular said, the Moldavian government appointed Shahjahan as the director general of their Foreign Ministry’s consulate in Bangladesh for 15 years in 1999; the contract period has been ended this year and they did not renew the contact.

As part of the Moldovan government’s plan to join the European Union, they closed half of their consulates except the important ones.

The Moldavian government praised services and sadly informed they would no longer renew the contract, claimed Shahjahan.
