Flood in Bogra: Army deployed to rescue people

BORGA: Government deployed army personnel in rescue the marooned people and relief works at Sariakandi upazila of the district on Friday following the collapse of flood control embankment of Jamuna River there.

The army persons are conducting rescue operations using some 13 boats, provided by local lawmaker Abdul Mannan.

Rajshahi divisional commissioner Helal Uddin Ahmed, district deputy commissioner Shafiur Reza Bishawas, superintendent of police Mojjamel Haque, and Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mazeda Yasmin are staying in the flood-affected areas.

Upazila project implementation officer Benjir Ahmed told banglanews, “Meanwhile, 10 sacks of rice flake were supplied; proper steps are being taken by making list of victims”

A vast area under Sariakandi upazila of the district was flooded as 50-60 feet of a flood control embankment of Jamuna River collapsed at Rouhadah Bazar area under Kamalpur union of the upazila early Friday, leaving thousands of people marooned.

Water is flowing 97 centimeters up from the danger line on the river now.
