DHAKA: Awami league advisory council member Suranjit Sengupta on Friday urged the government not to hand over the power to impeach justices to Jatiya Sangsad before amending the Constitution.
He voiced the urge at a discussion meeting titled “Current Politics”, arranged by Bangabandhu Academy, at Institute of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IDEB) in city in the noon.
Suranjit Sen said, “President and Prime Minister have special powers as per the Constitution of the country. Why, then, the Speaker of the House cannot have special power? It could not be that the JS cannot apply impeachment power.”
He also urged to amend the Constitution first then to pass the impeachment act.
