DHAKA: A Dhaka court on Tuesday framed charges against seven people, including four physicians of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), in a graft case related to the embezzlement of Tk 2.31 crore.
The four physicians include DMCH former director Brigadier General (retd) Bazle Kader, its former deputy director Mohammad Fayzullah, Assistant Professor Atiar Rahman and former Senior Lecturer Dr Mohammad Mashiur Rahman.
The three others are two former DMCH cashiers--Nazrul Islam (1) and Nazrul Islam (2)--and Surgical Mart owner Habibur Rahman.
Dhaka Senior Special Judge M Zahirul Islam framed the charge after the hearing. The doctors, however, claimed themselves innocent.
On August 27, the court ordered to send all accused, including four doctors of DMCH, to jail rejecting their bail pleas after they had surrendered before the court.
Upon hearing the order, Atiar and Mashiur fled the courtroom.
On September 7, Atiar surrendered before the same court and was sent to jail.
Mashiur is still fugitive.
On November 16, 2011, Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) filed a case with the city’s Shahbagh Thana accusing them of misappropriating of the money.
ACC submitted the charge-sheet in the case on May 15 this year following the investigation.
