CHITTAGONG: Agitated CNG-run auto-rickshaw drivers, who imposed a blockade on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway at Bortakia bypass area in Mirersarai, left the place in the afternoon.

Sources said that from then on, the road communication has become normal after five hours of being stuck.

Confirming the matter to banglanews Mirersarai CNG-run auto-rickshaw drivers’ association general secretary Nur Hossain said that they had withdrawn the blockade around 4:00pm over the request from police and local administration.

“But, if anyone harasses any CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver again, we will stand on the road again,” he added.

Mirersarai Thana Sub-Inspector (SI) Israfil said that police were able to disperse the strikers with the help of local MPs.

“The road communication is normal now at Dhaka-Chittagong highway,” he added.

Earlier, the auto-rickshaw drivers organized the blockade on Tuesday morning by setting fire on tyres on the highway.

Nevertheless, vehicles, carrying passengers and goods from and to Chittagong, got stuck there making a tailback due to the blockade.

The auto-rickshaw drivers said that they imposed the blockade protesting harassments and cases along with the detaining one of their colleagues.
