BGB deployed in 15 districts

DHAKA: Law enforcement agencies went on ‘high alert’ across the country to handle any untoward situation centering the appeal verdict against the war crimes convict Delawar Hossain Sayedee to be delivered on Wednesday.

Sources told banglanews that surveillance has already been increased from Tuesday in somewhere including the capital.

Moreover, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel have also been deployed in 14 districts while they have been kept ‘standby’ as a security measure for the capital.

However, BGB started their duties from Wednesday dawn to maintain law-and-order situation ahead of the verdict of the Jamaat-e-Islami leader besides regular forces including police and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).

The 14 districts are Chittagong, Rajshahi, Rangpur, Sylhet, Moulvibazar, Habiganj, Sunamganj, Feni, Bogra, Gaibandha, Jhenaidah, Noakhali, Faridpur and Laxmipur.

Reports, sent by banglanews24.com local and district correspondents, are as following.

In Dhaka

The Supreme Court is set to deliver its verdict on Wednesday morning on the appeal filed by death row convict Jamaat-e-Islami leader Delawar Hossain Sayedee against his penalty for the 1971 wartime offences.

Following this, law enforcers are on alert around High Court and in all important spots of the capital.

Sources said that plain-clothed cops have been deployed in various spots besides regular duties.

Moreover, RAB members are also on ‘high alert’ in this regard while BGB personnel have been kept ‘standby’ as a security measure for the capital.

In Chittagong

BGB personnel have been deployed in the port city from 5:00am on the day to avert any unwanted situations.

Moreover, additional police forces have also been sent to upazilas besides deploying in city’s important places.

However, sources said that a total number of 16-platoon BGB personnel have been deployed in Chittagong in which six platoons will work in the city and rest 10 platoons across the district.

Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) deputy commissioner Masud-ul-Hasan told banglanews that the law-enforcers will be in alert position to avert violence centering the appeal verdict against the war crimes convict Delawar Hossain Sayedee.

In Rajshahi

Five platoons BGB have been deployed here in the city from Tuesday night while two more platoons are ready to start their duties.

Sources said that moreover police have also been deployed at important spots ahead of the appeal verdict against the Jamaat-e-Islami leader.

Confirming the matter to banglanews, Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) deputy commissioner (Sadar) Tanvir Haider Chowdhury said that law enforcement agencies were ordered to maintain law-and-order situation strictly.

In Rangpur

Two platoons BGB have been deployed here in the city.

Rangpur deputy commissioner Farid Ahmed confirmed the matter to banglanews.

He said that check-posts have also been set at city’s important spots.

In Sylhet Range

A total number of 7000 police are on duty here in Sylhet Range consisting Sylhet, Moulvibazar, Habaiganj and Sunamganj.

Moreover, sources said that, intelligence members are also on high alert in greater Sylhet besides police and RAB.

Sources added that BGB and APBn are also ready here as ‘reserve force’ to avert any unwanted situation.

In Feni

To maintain law-and-order situation ahead of the verdict of the Jamaat-e-Islami leader, two platoons BGB personnel have been deployed in the town besides regular forces including police and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).

Feni deputy commissioner Humayun Kabir Khondakar confirmed the matter to banglanews.

He, however, said that the law enforcers will be on duty till the late night.

In Bogra

Four platoons BGB have been deployed in Bogra besides of regular forces.

However, district superintendent of police (SP) Mozammel Haque, regarding law-and-order situation, said that there is nothing to be worried and people can do their own works without any fear.

Sufficient police and other forces are on alert in the town and they are observing the overall situation, he added.

In Gaibandha

The local administration deployed here two platoons BGB to avert any unwanted situation.

Besides, regular forces are also on ‘alert’ in Gaibandha.

In Jhenaidah

Besides, adding extra police forces in important spots of the town, local administration sent four platoons BGB to upazilas besides deploying in town’s important places here.

However, Jhenaidah deputy commissioner said that the law-enforcers will be in alert position to avert violence ahead of the appeal verdict against the war crimes convict Delawar Hossain Sayedee.

In Noakhali

Three platoons BGB have been deployed here in the district.

Moreover, sources said that, intelligence members are also on high alert besides police and RAB.

In Faridpur

To avert violence ahead of the appeal verdict against the war crimes convict Delawar Hossain Sayedee, local administration deployed here two platoons BGB.

In Laxmipur

Three platoons BGB have been deployed here in the district.

Moreover, additional police forces have also been sent to upazilas besides deploying in city’s important places.
