NEW YORK: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in her address at Central Park will seek help from the world leaders to face the adverse challenges of Climatic change for people oriented, global friendly measures for sustainable developments.
She will also highlight the achievements of Bangladesh in the same speech, said sources concerned.
Bangladesh premier, in her speech will try to project the positive image of the country and her dream to make the country poverty free within 2030 in the biggest gatherings of 60 thousand people coming from various parts of the globe.
About 20 million people will view that live function and more than 400 million people will share the live program through various social media including facebook and twitter.
Sheikh Hasina will assert that Bangladesh is no more a bottomless basket.
Bangladesh permanent representative to UN Dr AK Abdul Momen informed this on the eve of attending the UN session by the Prime Minister.
During a talk with banglanews, he told Sheikh Hasina will hold the much awaited bi-lateral meeting with her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi at noon on September 27 (New York local time).
Bangladesh Foreign Minister Abul Hasan Mahmood Ali is now at New Delhi to finalize the formal bi-lateral talks. He also informed that diplomatic correspondence is now also going on between the missions of the two countries here.
On Thursday afternoon, a press conference was arranged at Bangladesh Mission at New York on the August visit of Bangladesh Prime Minister. Bangladesh envoy to UN Dr Momen disclosed that a group is carrying on e-mail campaigning against the ‘rare honor’ of Global citizen for poverty reduction to be accorded to the Prime Minister in the gatherings.
The organizers have invited the PM for giving the Global Citizenship award for poverty reduction and for her steps in different fields particularly in ‘Human Development Model’ where she will address in the open gatherings, he added.
Dr Momen informed that the speech of Sheikh Hasina will get special attention after the success of MDG and her agenda of development for post 2015.
Sheikh Hasina will deliver her speech in Bengali in the General Assembly on September 27.
In her speech, Sheikh Hasina will highlight on International peace and security, democracy and good governance, poverty alleviation, the role of Bangladesh in the empowerment of women, rights of migrant workers, steps taken by the present government for poverty reduction, measures taken by the government to climatic changes, the interests of low income group of countries, the progress of attaining the goal of millennium and also the position of Bangladesh and its contribution for sustainable development in the post 2015 period.
She will also participate in various programs of United Nations from September 23 to September 27.
Bangladesh Mission has arranged special programs in connection with the attainment of 40th years of its membership of UN. The special program will be attended by UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon along with the foreign Ministers of important countries.
A source of UN informed that the upcoming UN session will be attended by 95 presidents, 45 Prime Ministers, 2 vice-presidents, one Deputy Prime Minister and 50 Ministers. Simultaneously high powered delegations of 193 member countries are likely to attend the session.
The detailed engagements of PM Sheikh Hasina are given below:-
September 23: the PM will join Seminar on climatic change in the morning, meeting with UN General Assembly president SAM Kahamba Kutesa in the afternoon and dinner in evening to be hosted by President Barak Obama and Michelle Obama.
September 24: Sheikh Hasina will attend a reception of UN Secretary General and high profile inaugural ceremony of UN meeting in the morning. Next a possible meeting with the Belarusian Prime Minister Mikhail V Myasnikovich, the luncheon party to be hosted by UN Secretary General at noon, the seminar on ‘Education First Initiative’ to be conducted by former British Premier Gordon Brown in the afternoon.
September 25: In the noon, she will hold meetings with American Chamber and American Business Council, in the afternoon possible bi-lateral meeting with Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, in the evening separate possible meetings with Nepalese Prime Minister Shushil Kairala and Dr Fred R Volkmar.
September 26: In the morning, Sheikh Hasina will be the co-chair in the peacekeeping summit. Apart from Bangladesh, Japan, Rwandan Prime Ministers and Vice-president of USA are like to be the co-chair in this program. In the afternoon, she will attend the function at Bangladesh Mission organized to celebrate the 40th year of UN membership and unveiling the cover page of the book published in this connection.
In this function, beside the UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon, the foreign ministers of UK, Russia and India will attend. In the afternoon, she will also hold a press conference.
September 27: In the morning, PM Sheikh Hasina will address the UN General Assembly. In the noon, she will join a bi-lateral talk with Indian PM Narendra Modi. In the evening, she will take part in the Global Citizen festival organized by Global Poverty project at Central Park of Manhattan. Here, she will deliver her speech on health, safe life and empowerment of women in South Asia. In night, she is supposed to attend a reception of all citizens initiated by US Awami League.
In Bangladesh Mission press briefing, Deputy permanent representative Md Mustafizur Rahman, economic adviser Barun Dev Mitra and defense adviser AKM Akhtaruzzaman were present. The press briefing was moderated by first secretary of mission (press) Mamun-ar-Rashid.
