DHAKA: Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has taken decision to begin investigation against ex-army official Major General (retd) Jalaluddin Ahmed for his alleged involvement in embezzling of Tk 82 crore in the name of Multipurpose Cooperative Society Limited.

ACC deputy director (public relations) Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya confirmed the matter to banglanews on Wednesday.

He said the ACC formed a 3-member committee headed by its deputy director Jahangir Alam.

The other members include ACC assistant director Debabrata Mandol and deputy assistant director Mohammad Saiduzzaman.

Clients of Multipurpose Cooperative Society Limited complained to the ACC saying that the Society people convinced them that if they keep money to the organization they will get double profit than other financial organizations or banks.

The society also assured the clients that they will get the profit from 1st to 5th day of a month.

Besides, Jalaluddin Ahmed (retd) assured the clients to return their money from 10 to 15 days after their demands.

This ex-army official collected Tk 82 crore from 1,451 clients.

Some of the clients demanded their money back, but Jalaluddin failed to return their money on the promised date.

He later also failed to return the money showing several causes.
