DHAKA: No culprit can now flee after an accident on the Dhaka-Aricha and Dhaka-Tangail highways as the police will monitor it.

Vehicles will be monitored through online as 16 internet protocol (IP) cameras have been installed on the highways.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Hasan Mahmud Khandaker inaugurated the system at Ashulia Bipile Police Box initiated by Dhaka District Police on Wednesday noon.

The initiative has been taken to ensure safety for the upcoming Durga Puja and Eid-ul-Azha festivals.

The cameras have been setup in Amin Bazar, Savar Bus Stand, Nabinagar and Islampur on Dhaka-Aricha highway and Ashulia, Bipile, Kabirpur and Chandra on Dhaka-Tangail highway.

The police officers can observe the situation from anywhere after putting a unique password for this system, which will be controlled centrally.

As a part of community policing, several self-motivated persons and organizations are taking this initiative, which is being implemented by Superintendent of Police of Dhaka district Habibur Rahman.

IGP Hasan Mahmud Khandaker told banglanews that all culprits, who have relations with vandalism, arson, accident, snatching, vehicles stolen and so on, will be brought under the laws.

He hoped that crime would be diminished if the highways are centrally monitored with the help of this technology.

Gradually, the road communications will be under the camera monitoring, he added.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Highway Police said to banglanews that the officers can monitor the tailback and take measure to remove that. Proper action will be taken against them who will neglect their duties.
