2 cops hurt, 2 carjackers shot in city

DHAKA: Four people--two carjackers and two constables of police --were injured while chasing carjackers in Shankar area in city’s Dhanmondi Thana on Monday.

The injured police constables are Tapan Kumar, 35, and Shah Alam, 34 while the two injured carjackers are Saidur Rahman, 30, and Showrav, 32.

Officer-in-charge Abu Bakar Shiddique of Dhanmondi Thana told banglanews that a gang of four muggers snatched private car of a woman around 6:30 am.

Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, they tried to flee the scene. After chase and counter-chase the carjackers hit an auto-rickshaw, leaving the police constables injured.

Later, the law enforcers opened fire at the carjackers, leaving Saidur and Showrav wounded by bullet. However, the two others managed to flee the spot.

The police recovered the hijacked car, Tk 55 thousand and eight mobile phone sets from their possession.
