MANIKGANJ: 22 cattle drowned as a trawler capsized in Jamuna River at Baghutia under Daulatpur upazila of the district on Tuesday morning.

However 13 people of the trawler managed to swim to the river bank.

Union Parishad Chairman of Baghutia Akhter Hossain said that the cattle traders along with 23 cattle were coming to Dhaka by a trawler.

At one stage, the overloaded trawler fell into a rough weather and sank into the river.

Only one cow managed to swim to the bank. The cattle were tied tightly so they could not swim, he added.

Officer-in-Charge of Daulatpur Thana ASM Samsuzzaman confirmed the matter to banglanews.
