DHAKA: Hundreds of devotees including Islamic Parties staged a demonstration in capital’s Baitul Mukkarrm area protesting Latif Siddique’s remarks in New York that demean Hajj and Tablig Jamaat.
After Juma prayers, general devotees including Hefajat-e-Islam and other Islamic parties joined the protest programme demanding capital punishment of Latif Siddque.
On the other hand, additional police took position in the nation masque area apprehending protest by Islamic parties.
On September 28, Latif Siddique, minister of post, telecommunications and information technology, demeaned Hajj in his speech while addressing a programme organized by the Tangail Samity at a New York hotel in USA.
Pointing to Tablig Jamaat, he also said Tablig Jamaat create huge traffic congestion in the name of Ijtima.
His derogatory comments sparked controversy in home and abroad.
Later ruling Awami League said Latif Siddque has been removed from cabinet.
On Thursday, PM Sheikh Hasina at Sylhet Airport returning from New York said Latif Siddique will be ousted from cabinet and party both for his irresponsive remarks on Hajj.
