NOAKHALI: Police arrested fugitive death row convict for the murder of former Member of Parliament (MP) and Awami League leader Ahsan Ullah Master from Noakhali's Sonaimuri upazila on Tuesday.
The arrestee was identified as Akhter Hossain Bulu, 40, son of one Goni Mia, residing at Tongi near the capital.
Sources said that the fugitive was arrested from his in-law’s house at Sonapur village of the upazila in Noakhali.
Confirming the matter to banglanews, Sonaimuri Thana Sub-Inspector (SI) Mafij Ullah said that Bulu, the 8th condemned to death of Ahsan Ullah Master killing, who hide himself for longtime here, has been arrested by Tongi Thana Police on Tuesday night around 10pm.
“He, however, has already taken to Tongi with the assistance of Sonaimuri thana,” SI added.
Earlier, former MP Ahsan Ullah Master was gunned down on May 7, 2004 while addressing a Swecchasebak League conference at the Noagaon MA Majid Mia High School ground, near his residence.
Later, his younger brother Matiur Rahman filed a case in this connection with Tongi Thana.
Nevertheless, a Speedy Trial Tribunal on April 16, 2005, handed down death penalty to 22 people, including main accused BNP leader Nurul Islam Sarkar, and life term in jail to six others in the sensational case.
Of them, 18 including Sarkar are in prison currently. One of them died in jail in June while nine more convicts are absconding.
