President mourns Bhasha Matin’s death

DHAKA: President Abdul Hamid expressed deep shock at the demise of Language Movement veteran Abdul Matin, widely honored as ‘Bhasha Matin’, who passed away on Wednesday morning.

President mourned his death from Medina of Saudi Arab which was conveyed by President’s press secretary Ihsanul Karim over phone.

Remembering the Abdul Matin’s contribution on the language movement where Matin also took part, president said the nation lost a living legend of language movement.

Abdul Hamid prayed for salvation of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.

Earlier, Abdul Matin died on Wednesday morning at city’s Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).

Confirming the matter to banglanews, Matin’s wife Gul Badan Nesa Manika said that Abdul Matin, 88, passed away around 9:00am.

‘Bhasha Matin’ had been undergoing treatment for last couple of days there for old age complications.
