BARISAL: A case was filed against Prothom Alo’s Editor Matiur Rahman and photo journalist Abdul Majid with the Barisal Mahanagar Magistrate Court on Thursday on charge of hurting religious sentiments.

General Secretary of city unit Olama League Maulana Basirullah Atahari filed the law suit.

Court sources said Prothom Alo published photos of Muslim women by smearing vermilion on their partings to present them as Hindu women which hurts religious sentiments.

Besides, the newspaper also has been publishing news items and photos that are threat to communal harmony, the case statement added.

The case statement also said that the newspaper published cartoons about Hazrat Mohamman (SM).
