DHAKA: Maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox’s bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised keep hoisted local cautionary signal number three.
Under the influence of very severe cyclonic storm ‘Hudhud’ the low-lying areas of the coastal districts of Cox’s bazar, Chittagong, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Feni, Chandpur, Borguna, Bhola, Patuakhali, Barisal, Pirozpur, Jhalokathi, Bagherhat, Khulna, Satkhira and their offshore islands and chars are likely to be inundated by wind driven surge of 1-3 feet height above normal astronomical tide.
The very severe cyclonic storm “hudhud” (ecp 984 hpa) over west central bay & adjoining east central bay moved slightly northwestwards over the same area, said a special bulletin of the Met office.
The storm was centred at 06 am Saturday (11 October 2014) about 960kms southwest of Chittagong port, 900kms southwest of Cox’s bazar port, 840kms south-southwest of Mongla port and 840kms south-southwest of Payra port (near lat 15.6°n and long 86.3°e).
It is likely to intensify further and move in a west-northwesterly direction.
Maximum sustained wind speed within 74kms of the storm centre is about 120kph rising to 140kph in gusts or squalls. Sea will remain very high near the storm centre.
Under the peripheral influence of the very severe cyclonic storm, deep convection is taking place over North Bay. Gusty or squally wind may affect North Bay, coastal areas and maritime ports of Bangladesh.
All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay have been advised to take shelter immediately and remain in shelter till further notice.
