DHAKA: Poet Nirmalendu Goon’s open-heart surgery was successfully completed in city’s Labaid Hospital on Monday afternoon.

Noted Cardiologist Dr Baren Chakraborty made the disclosure to the journalists at 3:15pm.

Earlier in the day, the poet was taken to the operation theater around 12:00 noon for the bypass surgery under the supervision of Cardiologists Dr Baren Chakrabarty and Dr Lutfar Rahman.

The poet regained his consciousness in the evening.

Earlier, doctors suggested conducting an immediate open-heart surgery as the poet’s physical condition was deteriorating.

Goon was scheduled to come under surgery at 11:00am but it delayed over one hour due to the lack of proper preparations.

Earlier on Saturday noon, the poet fell sick and later on Sunday he was admitted to Japan-Bangladesh Friendship Hospital.

The poet, later in the Sunday afternoon, was shifted to Labaid Hospital as diagnosis showed his heart-attack following little improvement of his physical condition.

He, in the evening, was transferred to Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital.

According to the Labaid physicians, one of the heart arteries of this septuagenarian poet was found blocked.
