DHAKA: The government has decided to appoint M Fazlul Karim, who is currently serving as Bangladesh Ambassador to Mexico, as the new Ambassador of Bangladesh to China.

External Publicity Wing of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs disclosed the matter through a press release on Wednesday.

A career diplomat, M Fazlul Karim belongs to the 1984 batch of BCS (Foreign Affairs) Cadre.

In his distinguished diplomatic career he served in Bangladesh Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York, Bangladesh Embassy in Jakarta, Bangladesh Embassy in Washington DC, Bangladesh High Commission in Islamabad and Bangladesh Consulate General in Hong Kong in various capacities.

He has also served as Bangladesh Ambassador to Italy, Saudi Arabia and Jordan.

Karim obtained his graduate and post-graduate degrees on International Relations from the University of Dhaka.

He attended a number of overseas training programmes on International Law, International Development Issues, Peace Keeping Operation, Commercial Representation and Law of the Seas at various reputed institutes.
