Govt thinking alternative to admission test

DHAKA: The Education Ministry has been thinking the alternative to university admission test to save time, money and harassments of students.

The ministry gave argument that if the admission tests are withdrawn, the students can admit themselves with their preferred subject.

Now, the students have to sit for admission test to entry in public universities, medicals and dental colleges after completing their HSC examination.

With a view to taking preparation for the entry tests, the students spend huge money for admission coaching, buying coaching guide, form fill up, transport cost to go to take part in examination.

On 2013, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) and Jessore University of Science and Technology (JUST) take initiative to start joint examination but it failed.

The officials of the education ministry said the admission test should be held immediately after HSC examination that will save time and money of the students.

Education secretary Nazrul Islam said to banglanews that the alternative of honours entry test should be introduced as the coaching centers trade with the students in the mane of the examination.

Prime minister and education minister have been telling the matter for long time but the autonomous Dhaka, Rajshahi, Jahangirnagar and Chittagong Universities oppose it, he added.

Meanwhile, Dhaka University closed the opportunity to sit for entry test for second time. Though, the admission seekers have been protesting against the decision.

Nazrul Islam said the decision of the entry examination will be taken after discussion with the respective universities authorities and related personalities.
