DHAKA: The High Court on Thursday asked the defendants to bear the treatment cost of Shah Alam, a car driver, who sustained bullet injuries as Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Sub-inspector (SI) Anwar opened fire.
An HC bench comprising Justice Kazi Reza-ul and Justice Abu Taher M Saifur Rahman passed the order after hearing a writ petition filed on public interest.
The court also asked the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner to submit report within November 18 what measures were taken in this regard.
The HC passed the orders in response to a writ petition filed by Ain O Salish Kendra, a legal aid & human rights organization in the country.
Advocate Z I Khan Panna moved for the writ petition.
The court also issued a rule upon the authorities concerned to explain why divisional and legal actions should not be taken against those involved in the incident.
Home Secretary, Inspector General of Police (IG), DMP Commissioner, Officer-in-Charge of Sher-e-Banglanagar Thana, accused SI Anwar made the respondents of the rule.
On Sunday, the police official shot Shah Alam in his both legs at close range in Taltola area of the capital, and tried to indentify him as a mugger.
