Woman injured by muggers dies in city

DHAKA: A woman, who sustained injuries in a mugging attack in city’s Shukrabad area, died at a hospital Tuesday.

Ayesha Akther Ripa (27), daughter of Mohamamd Shahadat of Sonargaon of Narayanganj, resided at a rented house with his family in Lamaita.

Dhanmondi Thana Sub-Inspector Nurul Islam confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Quoting a friend of the deceased, Nurul said Ayesaha went out of the city and arrived in Panthapath area by the dawn of the day. Later, she rode in a rickshaw to reach her house in Lalmatia.

After her arrival in Sobhanbagh Mosque area, a mugging gang all of a sudden appeared in the scene riding a white color microbus.

As the gang tried to stanch the vanity bag, which was held in her hands, Ayesha fell on the road from the running rickshaw and received a severe head injury.

She was rushed to a nearby clinic where on-duty doctor declared her dead.

Police sent the body to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital morgue for autopsy, Nurul told.
