DHAKA: Leaders and activists of Ganajagaran Mancha on Wednesday expressed content for the capital punishment to Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Motiur Rahman Nizami for his crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War.
Earlier in the morning, the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 handed down death sentence to Nizami in the second, fourth, sixth and 16th numbers of charges.
The charges said Nizami collaborated with occupant Pakistan Army in mass killing and raping a large number of women, torching lot of houses and looting.
Tribunal chairman Justice M Enayetur Rahim passed the verdict.
Earlier, the Mancha leaders and activists thronged Shahbagh intersection of the city in the morning demanding capital punishment of Nizami.
The leaders and activists took positions dividing in three groups separately, led by Imran H Sarkar and Kamal Pasha and a group of JSD Chhatra League.
